Fourth place finish for Team Scotland at Fulda Cup
Team Scotland finished a creditable fourth in the International Fulda Cup held in Lochen, Austria at the weekend.
Kilmarnock’s Jordon Haydon was the undoubted star of the show, the 13-year-old taking gold in the 69kg class. He lifted 68kg in the snatch and 83kg in the clean and jerk to claim the top prize.
However each of the seven lifters competing for Scotland managed to bag a spot on the podium.
Craig Carfrey and Dale Cree, also of Kilmarnock, picked up silvers in the 62kg and 77kg classes respectively.
Meanwhile the Palace of Art ‘Princesses,’ Colette Will, Georgina Black and Amy Hamilton all bagged silver medals in their events, and their team-mate Mark Fitzpatrick won bronze.
The lifters didn’t only prove their class, though, they also displayed their ability to continuously improve and perform on the big stage – all posting new personal bests at the event.
The team was competing against 20 clubs from seven nations. Their fourth place saw them finish behind teams from Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic, but in front of teams from England, Italy and France
“All lifters were a credit to their respective clubs,” said Palace of Art coach Ray Cavanagh.
“And thanks also go to former Scotland National Coach Jim Holland and also to Lyndon Johns and Brian Hamill of the Weightlifters Fund in helping us make it to the competition,” he added.
