Scottish weightlifters break records at British Junior Championships
Palace of Art Weightlifting Club had three athletes competing at the British Junior Championships in Derbyshire last weekend.
Colette Will (16), competing in her first British Junior Competition, proved her worth in the 53kg class. Producing personal best performances of 45kg snatch and 55kg clean and jerk to total 100kg, Will secured the title of British Junior Champion for 2009.
Also competing at the event was Commonwealth Youth Games athlete, Amy Hamilton (17). Hamilton, who was competing in the 63kg class for the first time, managed to lift a 65kg snatch and 73kg clean and jerk, totaling at 138kg and securing second place.
In the process, both girls managed to break Scottish age-group records.
Haris Ansari (17), the only male from the club to make the qualifying standard, managed to equal his personal bests of 75kg snatch and 95kg clean and jerk. This secured the rookie to the sport a spot in fourth place.
The three athletes are now focusing their attentions on preparations for the International Fulda Cup, which takes place in June in Salzburg, Austria.
