Dunfermline youngsters beat odds to make final

Dunfermline has reached the final of the British Junior (under 19) Cup with group stage wins over Exeter (12-8), Manchester B (8-2) and Carlisle (4-3).

The best of the hat-trick was the win over Carlisle. With only four players over 16 in the team , the Fifes started as underdogs but battled to a grat win.

Coach Brian Campbell commented: ”This was a tremendous and unexpected victory for Dunfermline's young team and one which ranks as one of the best controlled and disciplined performances I have seen from the  players.

"The Dunfermline team held their structure, concentration and nerve and deserved to win a match which, realistically, they should not have been allowed to have even come close. It was a great lesson to the players of the importance of maintaining team discipline.”

Dunfermline face Invicta in the Final in Manchester on 25 April 2009 – last year the Dunfermline Yout team became the first Scottish team to win the British Youth Cup.  It could turn out to be a fantastic double.

The final is expected to be a very hard game with the Invicta team containing around six members of the current GB Junior squad – the Kent-based team will start firm favourites.

Dunfermline team : Jake Hinley, Andrew Woodall, Robert Tate, Lewis Dawson, Zach Thomson, Jordan Wood, Andrew Melville, Darren Campbell, Christopher Campbell, Logan Shepherd and Craig Wilkinson.

Scorers : vs Exeter : Andrew Woodall & Christopher Campbell (4 each), Lewis Dawson
(2), Robert Tate & Darren Campbell
vs Manchester B - Andrew Woodall (3), Lewis Dawson (2), Jordan Wood, Christopher Campbell & Zach Thomson.
vs Carlisle : Darren Campbell (2), Christopher Campbell & Andrew Woodall.
