Edinburgh's Robin Miedzybrodzki and new partner John Garcia-Thompson made a winning start in the FIVB beach tour event in Star Jablonki, Poland.

The new pair, aiming for the 2012 Olympics, easily beat Australians Luke Campbell and Don Carey 21-18 21-13 in their first qualifying round.

Garcia-Thompson previously competed for Spain but now has a British passport through parentage.

Scot Shauna Mullin and England's Zara Dampney suffered a disappointing exit in the women's qualifiers when they took the first set against Slovakia's Natalie Dubovcova and Dominkia Nestarcova before going down 21-19 17-25 12-15.
