Tough for Scots

New Scotland men's coach Simon Loftus has been handed a tough draw for next year's European "C" Championships in Andorra.

Scotland have been drawn against Cyprus in their qualifying group in Andorra next May.

Also in the group are the Faroe Islands and Ireland along with the host nation.

Scotland will prepare for the event by playing in the Novotel Cup in Luxembourg early in the new year.

Both Autosafe Bellshill sponsored North Lanarkshire Volleyball teams were in action last weekend but had mixed fortunes.

Bellshill men were up against Lenzie in the Scottish Cup 2nd Round and comfortably won 3-0. Despite some erratic passing Bellshill worked their way into the match and never looked in danger of losing a set in this match. Aggressive serving and hitting from player of the match Ross Allan proved decisive as Bellshill coasted through the match.

NL Ladies were not so fortunate and came up against a strong City of Edinburgh side who took the game 3 sets to 0.

Although the sets score and even the points score suggests an easy game for COE, this was far from the case and the ladies were unfortunate to go down so badly. The first set was a tight affair with both teams serving tough and blocking well not allowing any real power kills in the front court.

With the scores at 14-14 Edinburgh started to serve and block better than NL and took the game to 23 without reply. Eventually the set went to the home side 25-16.

The second set was tougher for the home team with NL working hard to keep the team in the game. Once again at 16-14 down the Edinburgh team pulled away and won the set 25-18. Changes to line up and a lack of concentration from North Lanarkshire in the third set saw them going down 25-10.
