Scotland's top players face an uncertain future as UK Sport is poised to make savage cuts in Great Britain's Olympic funding for 2012.
A total of £50 million has to be saved and there are fears that the volleyball programme will be crippled.
The GB programme has ticked all the boxes originally asked of it but the goalposts hae since moved with little investment from the private sector.
One leading Scottish coach said: "Volleyball looks particularly vulnerable as UK Sport are targeting sports that will win medals in 2012."
Basketball, handball and hockey are also sports that are expected to be hit hard.
