Scots suffer contrasting fortunes at English Masters tournament
Edinburgh's Robin Miedzybrodzki and new partner John Garcia-Thompson scored an upset 21-16 21-17 win over Dutch pair Guido Mopman and Sven Vismans in the English Masters beach tournament in Blackpool.
But the British pair failed to make the main draw after losing 18-21 16-21 to number three seeds Tarjei Skarlund and Martin Spinnangr from Norway.
In the women's qualifying, Edinburgh's Mel Coutts and English partner Denise Austin lost narrowly 19-21 18-21 to Germany's Chantal Labourer and Katharina Schillierwein.
Former Team Edinburgh club-mate Shauna Mullin and English partner Zara Dampney went straight into the main draw.
