Glasgow Mets claimed first blood in the race for honours by upstaging league champions Kilmarnock in the first round of the Top Teams Cup.

Mets, who lost the league in a play-off with the Ayrshire side last season, won in straight sets 25-17 25-23 25-19.

City of Glasgow Ragazzi, who are also expected to be there or thereabouts this season, beat Pentland NUVOC 25-21 25-16 25-21.

In the women's Top Teams Cup, Team Edinburgh had a commanding 25-16 25-11 25-8 win over Lenzie and Troon PA beat North Lanarkshire, also in straight sets, 25-21 25-19 25-19.

This season's competition has been revamped and the title will be decided on December 4.
