NL Ladies

Meanwhile North Lanarkshire ladies volleyball team were in action on Saturday against Pentland NUVOC from Edinburgh in the Division 1/ 2 play off.

Up against Division 2 opposition to retain their Division 1 status, North Lanarkshire were far too quick and powerful for the away team in the first set and ran away 25-9 winners. Setter Aileen Hall ran the attack very well fooling the opponent’s block regularly.

The second set was a different affair with the home team going 5-1 down to some decent serving from NUVOC. The game then changed hands up to 16-15 when the home team took control and ran out 25-18 winners. 16 year old Middle hitter Caitlin McEwan was a stand out in both blocking and quick attack.

NL were in cruise control in the third set taking a commanding 20-10 lead due to powerful serving and attacking. This allowed the home coach to give a run out to all the squad and although this unsettled the team, some sensible hitting allowed the team to rally and finish the set 25-19 and the match 3-0.

Special mention goes to player of the match Kay Morrison who was outstanding in both attack and defence. Next Saturday sees the return match in Edinburgh with NL only needing to win one set to retain their division one status.
