GB hopes dashed after double loss in Euro league
Great Britain men's teams hopes of reaching the Final Four of the European League all but vanished with a double defeat by Turkey in Norwich.
Without Scot Mark McGivern, the GB team lost 3-1 on Saturday after taking the first set and then were squeezed out 28-30 23-25 20-25 in yesterdays' re-match.
Coach Harry Brokking now fears that the recent cut in funding could harm the growth of his team at a crucial stage.
"We have come a long way and we need more experience of matches. We need to get a programme together - this team is playing 20 matches this summer whereas our opponent will play between 30-40. We cannot play more because there is no funding,” he said.
GB's women's team lost twice to France 3-0, also in Norwich, as the French booked their place in the finals.
