Scots on top

Scottish students ruled the roost in March, with several of the nation’s top university athletes took medals on the British stage.

Heriot-Watt’s Calum Robb, world Wado Karate champion, took individual gold at the British University Championships, and also led Scotland to team gold.

Karate wasn’t the only martial art on the medal rostrum however, as judoka Stephanie Inglis won gold in the women’s category while Jonathan Dewar won bronze for the men.

Edinburgh University’s Scott Fraser also continued his dominance on home soil.  A medallist at the World Student Games in 2008, Fraser won the men’s University Championships in Bristol, with his fellow Edinburgh students claiming three of the four remaining top five positions.

All of the medallists are supported by the innovative Winning Students programme.
