Scottish University squad off to Toulouse for test against French students
Scottish Universities Rugby has selected a squad of 22 to take on French Universities in Blagnac, Toulouse on the 13th February. This will prove a stern test for the students in front of a partisan crowd of around 4000 in a passionate rugby area.
Many of players return from last year in addition to new faces who will be making their debut at this level, following trials in October and subsequent squad sessions. A strong core of the squad in addition to representing their University play for sides in the top three Scottish Premier leagues. Such experience will be invaluable in competing against the very strong French, who will no doubt play with the typical brand of open rugby and close quarter aggression the country is renowned for.
As the first of three games Scottish University Rugby will play, the next against British Colleges on 27th February and then Irish Colleges 13th March both at Lasswade, it certainly will be a real warm up!
Scottish Universities Rugby has provided the springboard for two players. Last years Captain Marcus McAllister has been chosen to represent the Irish Club International Side while prop Gabriel Holmes is off to sample life in Italy with a professional side.
