Tennis Academy girls comes up trumps
Scotland's Tennis Academy girls have just returned from the National Clay Court Championships at Queenswood after more than holding their own against the cream of British talent.
The most impressive performance came from Dundee’s Alice Keddie, who won the girls Under 12 event.
A boarder at St George's School in Edinburgh as part of the Tennis Academy, Alice completely overwhelmed the British number 1, Katie Boulter in the final, 6-2, 6-1.
"It was a wonderful performance from Alice.", said academy coach Marcel du Coudray. "This is not just about this match but a culmination of many weeks of hard work and sacrifice both on and off the court. It's a tribute to the new academy and proof that we're doing good work with our Scottish players".
Scotland was also represented in the Under 14 doubles final with Emma Devine and Morven McCullough (another academy player) going down in three sets to Dominique Cromton and Caitlin Hindmarsh.
In the Under 12 girl’s doubles final, academy players Natalie Syme and Alice Keddie, squared up against each other to compete for the title. Teamed up with her single's final opponent, Keddie and Katie Boulter came out on top.
Tennis Scotland National Coach Ellinore Lightbody is confident the Queenswood results can provide the ideal springboard. “The performances once again demonstrate the excellent quality Scotland possesses at present and it certainly augurs well for the future.”
