Katie Gater (Dunblane) and James McKie (Ayr) were the top Scots - but both went out at the second round stage of the British Under-18 Championships at Craiglockhart in Edinburgh.
However, both lost to players good enough to go on and reach the semi-finals and they will be back in action at the same venue in another under-18 event next week.
Gater lost to a top-ranked Swede, Amina St. Hill, who was set to take on Britain's Samantha Vickers in the semis.
McKie went down to Mark Westgate, who had a semi-final date with fellow-Briton Ahmed El Manshawy.
