Reid geared up for London Paralympics

HELENSBURGH wheelchair tennis star Gordon Reid has swept the board in an all-conquering 2009 season – but he insists that will count for nothing in his pursuit of London Paralympic gold in 2012.

The 18-year-old retained his Masters title in Tarbes, France earlier this year to move him into the number one spot in the junior rankings.

But with the countdown to the London Paralympics approaching the 1000 days to go mark Reid - who competed in Beijing last year - insists the best is yet to come.

“I can’t believe the Olympics are coming around so quickly again,” said Reid. “But I’m not daunted because everything I do at the moment is geared towards London and making sure that I’m in the best form I can be there.

“It’s been a brilliant year for me and getting to No.1 in the world is a massive achievement and one that I’m very proud of.

“But I know there is a lot of work still to do and I’m going to keep working hard and not rest on my laurels.

“I’m where I want to be at this stage of my career and if everything keeps moving forward I don’t see any reason why I can’t do well at London 2012.”
