Reid backs disability athetes

Junior world No.1 wheelchair tennis sensation Gordon Reid is convinced he has what it takes to be on top for years to come – and will be joined by more disabled Scottish Athletes.

Reid – who turns 18 tomorrow – has had a successful year after his appearance at the Paralympics in Beijing retaining his Junior Masters title in France and climbing to No. 1 in the world rankings.

But he is not content to rest on his laurels and believes that disability sport in Scotland is in a perfect position to flourish in the coming years.

He said: “I’ve had a really good year and things have gone how I wanted them to do so overall I’m pretty happy with things.

“It’s a good time at the moment for disability sports in Scotland and with some extra funding coming in things will only get better.

“It’s a very exciting time with London 2012 and Glasgow 2014 and everyone is really up for working hard and making sure we have a good couple of games.”
