Murray won’t use Del Potro as inspiration

Andy Murray insists Juan Martin Del Potro’s shock win at the US Open hasn’t given him any extra incentive to break his Grand Slam duck.

The Dunblane star saw the 20-year-old Argentine stun Roger Federer at Flushing Meadows at the weekend to beat the world No.3 to a major.

But Murray, who is preparing to lead Great Britain against Poland in the crucial Davis Cup tie in Liverpool, is fully focussed on his own game.

“I’m pretty driven with my own goals – other players winning Slams doesn’t necessarily inspire me,” said Murray, who is now the only player in the top six in the world not to win a Slam.

“I don’t let that sort of stuff change the way I feel about my own game.

“I watched the end of the final and it was a great effort by Del Potro to come back.

“It’s really, really tough to win the Slams now so Del Potro’s effort was pretty good.”
