Murray suffers Davis Cup doubles defeat

Andy Murray suffered doubles defeat with Ross Hutchins to leave Great Britain staring Davis Cup relegation in the face.

The British pair went in as underdogs against Poland’s Mariusz Fysternberg and Marcin Matkowski - with the world number 11 duo running out 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 winners.

Dunblane-ace Murray lined up alongside Hutchins - touted as Great Britain's best doubles player - despite aggravating a wrist injury in his singles victory over Michal Przysiezny on Friday.

The world number three looked to be in rude health and the British pair raced to a 0-40 lead in the sixth game - but the Poles withstood the pressure to hold serve before breaking Hutchins’ to take the opener.

The British duo hit back when Murray's forehand winner earned a 5-3 lead in the second set - with the 22-year-old serving out to level proceedings.

Poland quickly opened up a 4-2 lead in the third set, before Hutchins found himself a break point down while serving to stay in the set.

The 24-year-old held on but Fysternberg and Matkowski served out to leave them one set from a crucial victory.

And the Polish pair were in clinical form in the fourth set to seal victory and take a 2-1 lead going into Sunday’s two decisive singles rubbers where Murray faces Jerzy Janowicz.
