Determined Murray brushes Montanes aside in Valencia
Andy Murray expunged all doubt he is still struggling with a wrist injury by romping into the semi finals of the Valencia Open.
The world number four, competing in his first tournament since damaging his wrist nearly two months ago while on Davis Cup duty, roared past Spain's Albert Montanes 6-4, 6-2.
On Thursday Murray looked more than a little ring rusty in a three-set victory against Argentina's Leonardo Mayer, but against Montanes, he was back to his ruthless best.
Murray had beaten Montanes in their two previous meetings, both of which have come in 2009, and the Spaniard appeared on another hiding to nothing when the Scot raced into a 2-0 lead.
But Montanes hit back and managed to grind out a 4-3 lead before the British number one raced through the gears to claim a scrappy first set.
And in the second, Murray was in complete control. He stormed into a 4-0 lead as Montanes was living on borrowed time and while the Spaniard regained some pride with two holds of serve, the Scot wrapped up an emphatic victory.
