Andy Murray included in John Lloyd's Davis Cup squad
Davis Cup captain John Lloyd expects the inclusion of Andy Murray will give Great Britain the advantage in their vital play-off against Poland from 18-20 September.
Great Britain, who have never lost to Poland in the Davis Cup, must win the tie at Liverpool’s Echo Arena to avoid dropping down into the Euro/Africa Group Two.
The world number two missed the 4-1 defeat to Ukraine in Euro/Africa Group One last March which left Britain requiring a victory in the play-off to avoid relegation to the lower tier.
And Lloyd insists the experience and superior quality of the world No.2 will vitalise his team and inspire to them to a much needed victory on Merseyside.
“It is a huge advantage for us to have a player of Andy's class in the mix and I am delighted to have him in the team,” said Lloyd.
“Everyone is very excited to be playing Davis Cup in Liverpool for the first time. This is a vital tie for us to avoid relegation and the entire squad is committed to keeping Great Britain in Euro/Africa Zone Group One for 2010 and establishing a firm foundation for next year.”
Lloyd named Murray in a six-man squad alongside British number two James Ward, Josh Goodall, Dan Evans and doubles specialist Ross Hutchins.
