Andy Murray made to scrap in Monte Carlo before rain comes down
Andy Murray was forced to dig deep to take the first set in his second-round tie at the Monte Carlo Masters before the heavens opened.
The 21-year-old, fresh from an impressive first-round victory over Romania's Victor Hanescu, got off to the worst possible start against Italy's Fabio Fognini, who raced into a 5-0 lead.
But the Scot roared back to force a first-set tie-break that Murray eventually come out on top in, securing a gruelling 13-11 win to edge in front of his opponent, ranked 108th in the world.
Murray held serve in the opening game of the second set before the rain came down on the Court des Princes as the covers came on and the players came off.
Meanwhile, world number two Roger Federer's slump in form continues as he crashed out to fellow Swiss ace Stanislas Wawrinka 6-4 7-5.
