Andy Murray lashes out at below-par Brits after Wimbldeon exodus
British number one Andy Murray described the mass exodus of homegrown players from Wimbledon over the opening two days as 'not acceptable'.
Six British players suffered first-round defeats on Tuesday, with the departures of Josh Goodall, Alex Bogdanovic and Dan Evans meaning Murray is now the only homegrown male left in the main singles draw.
Fellow Scot Elena Baltacha, who reached the third round at Wimbledon in 2002, was the only Brit to progress at SW19 as she beat Ukraine's Alona Bondarenko in three sets in a late-night match.
"It's not great. It's disappointing. It's not acceptable," said Murray.
"I'm not picking out the players because some of them played well but they are not at the same level as some of the other guys so when the tight moments come they don't play well.
"I'm not worried about what those guys are doing; I'm worrying about my own game. I just take care of my own business."
Baltacha had some sympathy for her beaten compatriots, saying: "They had tough draws and I know a couple of them had opportunities. It is tough and as difficult as we have all had such a great year."
