Andy Murray gets Team GB off to a winning start in Davis Cup
World number three Andy Murray cruised past Michal Przysiezny to edge Great Britain ahead in their vital Davis Cup showdown with Poland.
The Dunblane ace looked sluggish in the early encounters but gradually took control of the match to win 6-4, 6-2, 6-4.
Although the Scot showed no sign of his recent wrist problems, Murray admitted he was feeling stiff towards the end of the match and cast doubt on his participation in tomorrow’s crucial doubles match.
“It was a fun match with lots of drop shots from both of us and obviously that was the perfect start for Britain,” said Murray.
“We’ll have to see about the doubles though – it was pretty cold out there and I was getting a bit stiff towards the end of the match.
“Hopefully the rest of the team can go on from here and win – the crowd has been great and are keeping the boys going.”
