Andy Murray to team up with British teen-star Laura Robson in Hopman Cup
Andy Murray has revealed he will break with his usual Australian Open preparation routine by partnering Laura Robson at the Hopman Cup in January.
Traditionally Murray has used the ATP tournament in Doha – an event he has won twice - to prepare for the Melbourne grand slam which kicks off on January 18.
But the world No.4 has chosen a different approach for next year’s tournament with he and Wimbledon girls’ champion Robson making their debut as a mixed doubles pairing at the event in Perth.
"It's the first time Andy's prepared in Australia so that's a big statement," said Hopman Cup director Paul McNamee.
"He's never done well at the Australian Open. He indicated through his management he wanted to do something different this year.
"They noticed Novak Djokovic [in 2008] and Marat Safin [in 2005] used the Perth route to win the Australian Open so they are giving it a shot."
Murray and Robson will be the first British pairing to enter the Hopman Cup – which begins on January 2 - since Jeremy Bates and Jo Durie in 1992.
The tournament features one men's singles, one women's singles and a doubles match.
