Euan McIntosh does the double in comeback tournament
Edinburgh’s Euan McIntosh proved he is back to his best form after winning both the singles and doubles titles in the Scottish Under-14 Championships at Westburn, Aberdeen on Sunday.
13-year old Euan, winner of the Under-12 Championships three years ago, took three months away from the court last year to recover from a torn ankle ligament.
But the rest seems to have done him some good. In his first proper tournament since being back to full fitness, he won all four singles matches without the loss of a set.
In Sunday’s final he beat Perth’s Lindsay Murdoch 6-3 7-6 (12-10 in the tie break) before teaming up with his opponent to win the doubles title.
“I just did nothing for almost three months whilst I was injured,” said Euan. “I saw the physio a lot at the East of Scotland Institute but I couldn’t wait to play again. Since I’ve been back I’ve been playing really well, much better than before.
“I’m really pleased to win the singles because I never dropped a set in four matches.”
This weekend Euan moves up an age group when Scotstoun Leisure Centre in Glasgow hosts the Scottish Under 16 Championships.
Added Euan: “I just hope I keep on playing well. I could have a good chance.”
