Major test for Elena
Elena Baltacha has come through two qualifying rounds at the Rogers Cup in Toronto.

The Scottish number one came back to beat German Anna-Lena Gronefeld 2-6 7-5 6-3 in ther opening match.

She then went on to beat another German Krisina Barrois 7-6 6-2 in her next match.

She must now take on former world number one Kim Clijsters in her bid to get into the world top 100.
But Baltacha insisted her hard work is beginning to pay off, and is confident of getting a result against the Belgian.

"The last few weeks have been tough for me," admitted Baltacha, who reached a career high ranking of 104 in August. "Ive had some good draws but kept losing in tight matches.

"But Ive remained positive and worked really hard on improving every aspect of my game. The hard work and determination seems to be paying off now and I can't wait to have a go in the main draw."

With qualifying for the US Open due to start next week, it seems the Scot has found her form at just the right time as she looks to go one better than last year when she lost in the final round of qualifying at Flushing Meadows.
