Andy Murray down to fourth in world rankings after prolonged lay-off
Scotland’s Andy Murray has dropped to fourth in the world rankings after sitting on the sidelines for a month with a wrist injury sustained on Davis Cup duty.
Murray, who hasn’t appeared on Tour since crashing out of the US Open at Flushing Meadows in August, aggravated the injury during Great Britain’s defeat to Poland in September.
Novak Djokovic, who won the China Open on October 11, has claimed Murray’s place inside the world’s top three.
Djokovic defeated Maran Cilic in straight sets to climb to third behind world number one Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
The 22-year-old Scot is scheduled to return to action at the Valencia Open on November 2 before competing in the Paris Masters seven days later.
Should Murray maintain his fitness he will look to relieve his frustrations by claiming the ATP World Tour Finals at London's O2 Arena.
