Fleming eyes top 50 after claiming doubles title

Scottish tennis ace Chris Fleming set his sights on the world’s top 50 after claiming his second doubles ATP World Tour title at the St Petersburg Open.

Fleming joined forces with fellow Brit Ken Skupski to battle back from one set down to defeat French duo Richard Gasquet and Jeremy Chardy 2-6, 7-5, 10-4 in Russia.

The 25-year-old Scot and Skupski claimed their maiden Tour win in Metz in September and are set to represent GB in their Davis Cup tie with Lithuania in March.

“Top 50 is the next goal in front of us and then beyond that we'd like try and get some good results at Grand Slam tournaments,” said Fleming.

“We've played one Grand Slam together and we lost first round and that's something we really want to improve on.

“Winning tournaments like this one will help with that because it gets us into events like the Australian Open and it means we don't have to wait for Wimbledon.

“The success at those bigger tournaments might not come straight away but we'll keep working hard and keep believing."
