Fleming called into Davis Cup squad

Scot Colin Fleming has been called up by captain John Lloyd for Great Britain as a late replacement for Josh Goodall in this month’s Davis Cup tie against Poland in Liverpool.

Fleming played in Britain’s defeat to Ukraine earlier in the year which has left Britain needing to win their play-off to avoid relegation to Group Two of the Euro/Africa zone.

It will be the 25-year-old’s second appearance for Britain but Lloyd insists the Broxburn-born star as what it takes to perform against Poland.

He said: “Josh has been ill for about three weeks now and although he has tried, he has been unable to shake a persistent virus.

“Unfortunately we just ran out of time to prepare him for the tie. Colin has had some impressive results both in singles and doubles this season and will be a valuable addition to our campaign in Liverpool.”
