Jamie Baker's interest in the JSM Challenger in Champaign, Illinois, came to an end in the second round.
The Scottish number two lost out in two tough sets to unseeded American Ryan Sweeting 6-4 6-4.
Baker had been promoted from the qualifying draw and beat number eight seed Robert Kendrick in his first round match.
The Glasgow player will remain in America to play in one more Challenger event before coming home.
