Edinburgh's Emma Devine reached the final of the Scottish Under-14 Open at Craiglockhart in Edinburgh but lost out 5-7 6-2 6-4 in a thrilling match against Glamorgan's Safyyah Azeez.
But the disappointment was eased as the youngster's great effort was rewarded with a wild card entry for this week's ITF Junior Under-18 Tournament, also at Craiglockhart.
Emma has won the West of Scotland Under-18 title this year and there is a chance she could be one of the first players to gain a place at a new academy in Belgium set up by former world No.1 and recently retired Justin Henin.
In the final, Emma led 4-1 in the finals set before going down to her Welsh-based opponent.
