Scottish number one Elena Baltacha is on course to reach the main draw of the US Open for the first time.

Baltacha beat Poland's Anna Korzeniak in three sets 7-6 5-7 6-0 in her first qualifying match to set up a clash with American Carly Gullickson.

Again, the Scot was taken to three sets but she came through 6-1 6-7 6-2 to reach the third qualifying round.

She now faces Julie Coin (France) who beat Bulgarian Sesil Karatantcheva 6-3 6-7 6-3 in her second round qualifier.
