Elena Baltacha edges closer towards US Open spot
Scottish number one Elena Baltacha is on the brink of the main draw at the US Open in New York.
Baltacha has battled through two qualifying rounds and now faces Australian Anastasia Rodionova for a place in the first round proper.
She breezed through her opening qualifying match at the US Open with a 6-1 6-1 win over Argentina's Betina Jozami.
The Scot then followed up with a 7-5 6-0 dismissal of Andrea Hlavackova (Czech Republic), a player 87 places lower on the world rankings.
Meanwhile Jamie Baker reached the semi-finals of the ITF Futures event in Nonthaburi, Thailand, with an upset 6-4 2-6 6-4 win over number three seed Hiroki Moriya (Japan).
The former Scottish number two now faces Canadian Milos Raonic (Canada) who put him out of last week's tournament in the same city.
Baker moved into the last eight with a 7-5 6-3 win over Frenchman Rudy Coco.
Battling back to form after serious illness, he now hopes to make his first final since returning to the circuit.
