Scottish number one Elena Baltacha suffered a stunning first round defeat at the $50,000 Gifu Open in Japan.

The top seed, who won the Changwon Open in Korea last weekend, tumbled out to Japan's Ayumi Oka, a player more than 300 places below her in the world rankings, 6-2 6-4.

The defeat came just as Baltacha seemed to be getting her consistency together.

It will cause her a major concern with Wimbledon just around the corner.
