Baltacha and Baker exit Wimbledon
Both Elena Baltacha and Jamie Baker have been knocked out of Wimbledon in the past 24-hours.
Baker was first to go, losing on Tuesday to Italy’s Stefano Galvani in a straight sets defeat, 6-4, 6-2, 6-3. Having only returned to the circuit after serious injury a few weeks ago, his appearance on the big-stage was short lived.
Meanwhile Baltacha went down to a crushing 6-2, 7-5 defeat at the hands of China’s Jie Zheng on Court 2.
Early in the match fans were forced to wonder if the Scot had shown up at all, as Zheng rushed into a 4-0 lead in the first set, at which point there was little chance of a Baltacha fight-back.
She made a better showing in the second set however, leading 5-4 before Zheng finally exercised her superiority, finishing Baltacha off by winning the set 7-5.
