Mixed fortunes for Scottish players Baker and Slater in USA
Jamie Baker is through to the final qualifying round of the ITF Challenger in Knoxville, Tennessee.
The Scottish number two, seeded five in the qualifying, opened with an impressive 6-1 6-1 win over American wildcard Jacob Meyer.
He went on to beat Italy's Matteo Fago 6-2 6-0 in his next match.
He now faces unseeded American Nicholas Munro for a place in the first round proper.
Meanwhile Ayr's Nicola Slater lost out in the qualifying rounds for the Rock Hill Rocks Open in South Carolina.
Still carrying a niggling injury, Slater went down to Slovenia's Petra Rampre 7-6 6-1 in the second qualifying round.
It was the US-based player's final tournament of the year and she will now take time to recover fully from her injury.
"I'm not too disheartened," she said, "My opponent is ranked much higher and I didn't play to my real capabilities."
