Andy Murray to face Ernests Gulbis in round one of US Open
Andy Murray will face Latvia’s Ernests Gulbis in the first round of the US Open, which gets underway on Monday.
The Scot, seeded second for the first time at a major championship, last met Gulbis in the WImbledon second round and Murray has come out on top in all three of their matches.
Their encounter at Wimbledon was given extra spice after accusations of cheating were leveled at Murray by the Latvian.
Gulbis accused Murray of feigning a thumb injury at Queen’s last year – a claim that did not sit well with the British number one, who proceeded to send Gulbis packing from the All England Club in just 88 minutes.
Meanwhile, world number one and defending champion Roger Federer tops the seeds in the men’s draw and he will face the USA’s Devin Britton.
And third seed Rafael Nadal of Spain, who could face Murray in the last four, opens against France’s Richard Gasquet.
Fourth seed Novak Djokovic will face Croatia’s Ivan Ljubicic, while a semi-clash with Federer could await, but he will most likely have to overcome 2003 champion and 2009 Wimbledon finalist Andy Roddick.
