Andy Murray makes short work of Ferrero in Montreal
Andy Murray must want to play Juan Carlos Ferrero every week.
Murray blew the former world number one away to reach the quarter finals of the Montreal Masters 6-1, 6-3 to set up a last-eight clash with either Fernando Gonzalez or Nikolay Davydenko.
Until Murray faced Ferrero at Queens earlier this year, he had never faced the Spaniard, but he cruised past him in west London before an equally destructive display in the Wimbledon quarter finals just weeks later.
And in the third round of the Montreal Masters Murray, in what was only his second match since his Wimbledon semi-final defeat to Andy Roddick, was in complete control from start to finish.
"It was very good, he's a tough player who has had a good few months and had a couple of good results here," said Murray. "He's a very good player and he's getting back towards the top 30 in the world.
"But I was striking the ball really well and that was pleasing. I've always said hard court is my favourite surface. I keep on getting told that it's grass but I've always said it's this surface.
"The ball always stis up nicely and I find it a lot easier to go for my shots."
The Scot, at his ferocious best, marched into a 3-0 lead in the first set before wrapping it up 6-1 it typically ruthless fashion.
And the writing was on the wall for Ferrero when he lost his serve in the first game of the second set and while he managed to hold serve on three more occasions, Murray, bidding to overtake Rafael Nadal as the world's number two, sealed victory with another break.

Meanwhile Scottish number two Colin Fleming and English partner Ken Skupski fell at the first hurdle of the ITF Challenger in Binghampton, New York.
The British pair, who won the Granby Open in Canada last month, were seeded two for the event.
But they crashed in straight sets to Carsten Ball (Australia) and Kaes Van Hof (USA) 6-1 6-4.
