Scotland men finish sixth at Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships
Scotland have finished sixth in the men's team competition at the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships in Glasgow.
The hosts suffered an agonising 3-2 defeat to Canada in the fifth-place play-off as their fate was confirmed, while arch rivals Wales and England shared bronze.
Scotland eased their way into the second group stage and, having drawn India, England and Australia, Scotland finished third courtesy of a 3-1 victory over Australia.
That was enough to book their match with Canada, and Edinburgh's Craig Howieson gave Scotland the perfect start as he breezed past Homayoun Kamkar-Parsi 11-7 11-6 11-8.
Pradeeban Peter-Paul then levelled the scores at 1-1 with a straight sets win over Craig Hardie, before Niall Cameron claimed an epic five-setter against Xavier Therien.
But Peter-Paul won his second contest of the match against Howieson to force a decider and Kamkar-Parsi came out on top over Hardie 11-7 11-6 11-5.
