Scots' Mixed Fortunes

Scotland finished 28th in the team event at the European Championships in St Petersburg, Russia, after a mixed run of results in the play-offs.

The Scots brushed past San Marino 3-0 but then lost 3-0 to Estonia and then 3-1 to Latvia.

In a one-sided match against San Marino, number one Gavin Rumgay beat Fiorenzo Marani 11-7 11-4 12-10, Stewart Crawford beat Marco Vannucci 11-8 11-2 11-1 and Niall Cameron defeated Mattia Berardi 11-7 11-6 11-7.

Crawford, who showed good form throughout the team event, was Scotland's only winner in the final play-off against Latvia.

He beat Reinis Burgis after a thrilling fightback 7-11 11-8 9-11 11-7 15-13 but it was not enough to help Scotland to overall victory.
