Ten swimmers off to Pune

Daniel Scott, who is swimming under new coach Eileen Adams with the City of Glasgow High Performance squad, is Scotland’s top swimming hope at the Commonwealth Youth Games starting in Pune, India, this weekend.

There are ten Scots in the line-up, and Ian Wright, Warrender’s Head Coach, is in charge of the squad, and confident that the swimmers can produce some fine results.

“I’m not sure how high the standard will be, and it will certainly be higher than in Australia four years ago when neither Canada nor England took part,” said Wright.

“But it is a strong squad. Daniel has competed in world and European Junior Championships and should feature in the sprints.”

Wright has three of his own Warrender swimmers in the squad – Ewan Johnstone, Andrew Haslett and Sally Wood.  They all include the 200m individual medley in their repertoires.

“It is going to be a great experience for all the swimmers,” continued Wright.  “But Pune will be a little bit of a step into the unknown. Whatever happens, it will be a terrific learning experience for everyone in the Scottish team.”

Swimming Team:  Lucy Ellis, Sara Hamilton, Megan Gilchrist, Robyn Matthews, Sally Wood, Ewan Johnstone, Andrew Haslet, Iain Scanlon, Daniel Scott, Douglas Scott.
