Team GB grab bronze

Scotland's Caitlin McClatchey helped Great Britain to 4x200m freestyle bronze in one of the fastest relay races of all-time at the World Swimming Championships in Rome.

Great Britain had announced their intentions in qualifying, advancing in the quickest time and setting a new championship and European record in the process.

In the final, world and Olympic medallist Jo Jackson came into the squad at the expense of Garioch teenager Hannah Miley, while Jazmin Carlin, McClatchey and double Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington completed the quartet.

China proved too strong and captured gold with the 29th world record of the championships, and the USA clocked the second-fastest time in history, while Great Britain took more than four seconds off their European record to take bronze.

"It is fantastic to come out as a team and get bronze," said McClatchey, who won a 400m freestyle bronze in Montreal four years ago.

"I'm so proud of what we have done, it has got rid of all the ghosts from last year and I am really pleased we can finally stop talking about that now."

Hannah Miley, who swam a leg for GB in the semi-final, didn't make the team for last night's final.
