Lewis Smith looking to repeat recent performances at Scottish National Championships
Edinburgh swimmer Lewis Smith insists his World Championship fate lies in his own hands ahead of June's Scottish National Championships in Glasgow.
The 21-year-old failed to qualify at the first attempt at the British Gas Championships in Sheffield but did himself no harm, claiming triple silver in the 400m freestyle and 200m and 400m medleys.
Only the winners of each race at Ponds Forge secured a July ticket to Rome but with one further place up for grabs in Glasgow in June, Smith must equal or better his performance at Tollcross.
And the Warrender Swimming Club flyer believes the partisan Scottish crowd will see him line up as the favourite in three months time.
"I was pleased with the week in Sheffield, I just have to repeat that in Scotland now," said Smith, who set a new personal best on the way to silver in the 400m medley.
"I know all about swimming in Scotland and I know some of the English guys don't like coming up here, they aren't used to it but we are because we swim here all the time.
"It is a good facility, it is the same venue where the Commonwealth Games are going to be held and we have a real advantage."
