Team GB packed with confident Scots ahead of July's World Championships
Garioch's Hannah Miley will be the brightest hope for Scotland after being named in British Swimming's 40 strong squad for next month's World Championships in Rome.
The 19-year-old broke two European records in the 200 and 400m individual medley at the British Swimming Championships in March and heads to Italy as a realistic medal hope.
Caitlin McClatchey, David Carry, Ross Davenport, Kris Gilchrist and Robbie Renwick are just some of the other Scottish faces that will make the trip.
And British Swimming Head Coach Dennis Pursley insists the team has just the right balance to return from Italy with some medals in tow.
"This team has a really good mixture of veterans and young, up-and-coming swimmers and that was our goal," said Pursley.
"Our aim within the first year of the Olympic cycle plan was to try to get inexperienced swimmers competing in the premier events on the calendar such as the World Championships in Rome and this will be a good development opportunity.
"I'm looking forward to seeing some strong leadership from the veterans to begin the process of molding together a tightly bonded team."
David Carry actually thought he had missed out on a place in the world championships after he finished third in the 200m freestyle on he final day, but he was handed a place in the relay.
Smith is the one newcomer at this level – all the other Scots competed at last year’s Olympics, and the 21-year-old earned his slot in the 400m individual medley.
