Scottish record not good enough amongst Europe's elite for Scott
Demonstrating the strength of competition, East Kilbride’s Douglas Scott set a Scottish Age Group Record but missed out on the final at the European Junior Swimming Championships in Prague.
The 18-year-old finished his heat of the 100m breaststroke in 9th place with the new record time of 1:03.71. Following his semi-final he was placed 13th overall.
Sara Hamilton (South Aberdeenshire Swimming) also made it through to the semi-final stages of the girls’ 50m freestyle, where she finished 12th overall in a time of 26.65, half a second out from her own Age Group Record time. Lucy Ellis (Stirling Swim/Stirling ITC) finished the event in 27.05.
In other events Jak Scott (Stirling Swim) finished his 200m freestyle heat in a time of 1:52.89 and Cameron Brodie posted a time of 56.30 in the 100m butterfly heats.
Corrie Scott, who is Douglas’s younger sister, clocked 1:15.22 in the heats of the 100m breaststroke heats. Craig Hamilton (Warrender Baths Club) swam well in the 800m freestyle to finish 11th overall in a time of 8:13.21.
