Scots rake in medals in Rome

City of Edinburgh's Kris Gilchrist struck gold in the 200m breaststroke as Scotland's Olympic swimmers hit form over the weekend at the Seven Hills Meet in Rome.

Gilchrist confirmed he is on form for the Olympics in Beijing in August with a victory in 2:12.43 - he finished over a second ahead of Italy's Paolo Bossini - while five Scots helped Great Britain win two of the relays.

Hannah Miley, Caitlin McClatchey and the English pair of Jo Jackson and Becky Adlington formed a 4 x 200m freestyle relay team that broke the British record with a winning time of 7:55.83.

In the men's 4 x 200m freestyle, David Carry, Robbie Renwick and Andrew Hunter joined England's Ross Davenport in securing gold in 7:13.24.

Garioch's Miley also took a couple of individual silver medals. She was second in the 400m individual medley in 4:37.60 and also in the 200m distance in 2:12.07.

Loughborough's McClatchey claimed bronze in the 100m freestyle in 55.42, while City of Edinburgh's Kirsty Balfour was another medallist with a third place in the 200m breaststroke in 2:28.55.

Euan Dale, from Duns, picked up a bronze in the 400m individual medley in 4:18.29 and Carry completed the tartan medal haul with a bronze in the 400m freestyle in 3:48.39.
