Scots swim to silverware at National Age Group Championships
Scottish swimmers have claimed 11 medals to date at the ASA National Age Group Championships at the famous Ponds Forge pool in Sheffield.
North Ayrshire duo Jennifer King and Jordan Hughes, and Emily Jones from Garioch were the early leading competitors, bagging a gold medal apiece. King stormed to victory in the 11-year-old girls 200m backstroke in 2:26.05, and made it a double celebration with a well fought bronze in the 400 IM (5:25.65).
Competing in the 12-year-old boys category, Hughes demonstrated his freestyle potential with a gutsy effort to lift the 100 freestyle title in 57.08, and went on to back this up with a very determined swim in the longer 400 metre race to take bronze in 4:24.98.
Jones, who trains with World Championship hopeful Hannah Miley at the Garioch club, continued her progress up the age group rankings by winning the 13 year old girls 400m freestyle in a new PB time of 4:26.22.
