Scots go out to Beijing with a bang
Gregor Tait, Kirsty Balfour, Hannah Miley and Robbie Renwick all won titles on the opening day of finals at the ASA National Championships in Liverpool.
All four are heading for the Olympic Games in Beijing next month, and Renwick proved he is on song for his China test by holding off Wales' David Davies to win the 400m freestyle in 3:49.61.
Miley, the youngest of the ten Beijing-bound Scots, again underlined her class by winning the 200m individual medley. The 18-year-old, who is coached by her father, Patrick, at the Garioch Club in Inverurie, clocked 2:14.77 and was almost a second ahead of Lizzie Simmonds (Loughborough).
City of Edinburgh's Balfour won the 200m breaststroke, although only after Sweden's Hanna Westrin, who touched first, had been disqualified for a faulty turn. Balfour, the fastest qualifier, was slightly slower in the final, taking the title in 2:32.46.
Tait, the 28-year-old double Commonwealth Games Champion, clinched his win in the 100m backstroke. He won in 55.32 with Scottish Internationalist Scott Houston (Stirling) in third place in 56.70.
