Rome will be best yet - Gilchrist

France-based Scot Kris Gilchrist is adamant the World Swimming Championships in Rome will be his best yet as he bids for medals on two fronts in the Italian capital.

The 25-year-old was given an Olympic lesson 12 months ago failing to make the final in either the 100m or 200m breaststroke in the Water Cube finishing 27th and 13th respectively.

Gilchrist also missed out on the 200m breaststroke final during the 2007 World Championships in Melbourne and has since relocated to France along with coach Fred Vergnoux.

And Edinburgh-born Gilchrist believes he will reap the rewards of his cross-channel switch when he takes to the pool at the Foro Italico.

"I have been swimming really well recently and I am pleased with the times I have been getting," said Gilchrist.

"I haven't had any breaks in my training and with the times I am posting who knows what could happen and what I could produce.

"Fred is a great coach and I am glad that I made the move to Paris and stayed with him. I have been training outdoors which helps as the pool in Rome is outdoors and I am feeling great."
