Craig Rodgie one of eight British medallists on day three at Euros
Fife’s Craig Rodgie was one of eight gold medallists as Britain’s dominance at the IPC Swimming European Championships in Reykjavik emphatically continued on day three.
Rodgie joined Eleanor Simmonds, Sam Hynd, Heather Frederiksen, Anthony Stephens, Stephanie Bird, Matthew Walker and the women’s 4x100m medley relay team in topping the podium in Iceland.
The 19-year-old came from behind to beat team-mate Ben Procter in the 100m backstroke and be crowned European champion in a new British record time of 1:06.8minutes.
Procter took silver just over half-a-second behind while Wesel Everloo claimed bronze, and Rodgie said: “I just did what I had to do on the last 25m to take the medal.
“And that is the way to do it. The team is great everyone pushes each other and it is fantastic to be here.”
Warrender’s Sean Fraser clinched a bronze medal in the men's S8 400m freestyle in a time of 4:46.67.
